2022 Program Highlights
Completed the archaeology project on the first permanent location of the historic First
Baptist Church in Colonial Williamsburg on South Nassau Street
Confirmed the discovery of 62 intact burials on the site
Received approval from the descendant community to exhume three of the 62 graves and
remove samples for examination by the Institute of Historical Biology at William & Mary
and the University of Connecticut
Continued work with Colonial Williamsburg, William & Mary, and members of the First
Baptist Church descendants to record oral histories
Served as one of the founding member organizations on the Williamsburg Juneteenth
Community Consortium and partnered to plan and produce the Greater Williamsburg
annual celebration of the end of slavery in the United States
