Represented the descendants in a series of meetings with Colonial Williamsburg
Foundation (CWF) archaeologists to understand and communicate the information
on the number and types of artifacts discovered during Phases I and II
Worked with CWF archaeologists during the completion of Phase II of Nassau Street
excavation project to ensure that descendants were provided status reports during
all phases of the on-site investigation(s)
Led the descendant community meetings on the exhumation, study and confirmation
of remains in three of the in-tact burials located on Nassau Street
Received a $250K grant by the City of Williamsburg to update the exhibit space(s) at
the First Baptist Church that will tell the full story of the church from 1776-2026
Received support from Dominion Energy for the electrical re-wiring of the church to
satisfy Priority 1 items of Phase I Capital Projects at the First Baptist Church,
Scotland Street
Launched the update of the History of First Baptist and continued work with Dr.
Cassandra Newby-Alexander, the Endowed Professor of Virginia Black History and
Culture and emeritus director of the Joseph Jenkins Roberts Center for African
Diaspora Studies at Norfolk State University, to author an updated book on The
History of First Baptist Church
Continued work with William & Mary, the Village Initiative, Colonial Williamsburg
Foundation and members of the descendant community to record oral histories
Awarded 2023 undergraduate scholarships to Jada Turner (UNC) and Rheis
Granger (UVA), as well as two honorable mention awards to Hailey Crusenberry and
William Corbin, III
Held second annual LFRF Fall Gala with more than 700 guests and donors featuring
keynote speaker, Julieanna Richardson, an American Harvard-trained lawyer and
the founder and executive director of The HistoryMakers; actor and activist Keith
David; and contemporary musical artists Jazz Funk & Soul
Increased the number of volunteers, donors, and sponsors for the Fall fundraiser
exceeding the goal of $50K in sponsorships
Invited by the WJCC School Board to present HHTIUT documentary and three
workshops to Virginia/United States History and African American History teachers
