Volunteering a li!le of your ?me
to help out in Peterlee’s main
public park – Woodhouse Park
o& Balliol Close – could be just
the opportunity you’ve been
wai?ng for!
Throughout the summer Months
Town Council’s sta6 based at
Woodhouse Park have been busy
geng the park ready for entry
into the ‘Green Flag’ awards
scheme. Now in its 25th year, the
Green Flag award recognises and
rewards well managed parks and
open spaces right around the
world!
Woodhouse Park has recently
beneI+ed from well over
£300,000 of investment by the
Town Council which has provided
refurbished play areas, new
fencing, a new parcour and bike
pump track.
The Green Flag judges visited
Woodhouse Park in June 2021
and were parTcularly impressed
with the community and mulTH
agency involvement within the
awardHwinning community
garden as well as strong
community links with the park,
with a wide variety of groups
geng involved in helping out in
the park including local schools
and East Durham College.
The judges were also impressed
with some of the innovaTve ways
Peterlee Town council were
tackling AnTHSocial Behaviour
alongside the local
Neighbourhood Police Team and
Durham Youth JusTce services.
Another aspect of the award
criteria is how well Peterlee
Town Council communicate and
interact with local volunteers and
with that in mind the Parks
Department sta6 are keen to
hear residents’ views on all
aspects of visiTng Woodhouse
Park and for the future provision
of areas for seaTng and picnic
areas and exercise equipment.
Peterlee Town Council are also
keen to increase the pool of
volunteers and encourage
anybody visiTng the park to get
involved through a range of
community acTviTes throughout
the rest of the year.
