and the Irst cohort of 5 placements
started with us in the Irst week of June
2021. They were shortly followed by a
further two young people, and then
another two started with us on 1st July
2021.
The KickStart placements spend the Irst
two weeks with us in Woodhouse Park,
working with the small team based
there to do some basic competency
work on machinery such as pushH
mowers, strimmers, blowers, etc. Once
they’ve passed through their fortnight’s
Boot Camp and received their
competency cerTIcates the young
people then go out and work with our
Parks department wherever they are
needed. We’ve also used them to do
some community work such as blitzing
the grounds of a local community hub
that had got a li+le overgrown. They’ve
been a great addiTon to our team, have
I+ed in really well, and it feels good to
be o6ering these young people some
valuable work experience and enabling
them to earn a wage.

programme I’d highly recommend
giving it a go. You’ve got unTl the end
of December 2021 to get yourself some
bright new colleagues and to give some
local young people a muchHneeded

employment ladder.
