PhD, MA (Medical Ethics and Law), BSc (Professional Nursing – Children), RN (Child), RN (Adult),
FHEA
Pippa completed her PhD in 2022, after leading the Going Digital study (2018-2022), which explored the
experiences and perception of young people, parents and hospital staff before and after implementation of
Electronic Patient Records and MyGOSH patient portal at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).
Following completion of her PhD, Pippa has been working between GOSH and the University of Surrey.
During 2023, Pippa led the formation and management of the Digital Health Inequalities working group, with
the aim of addressing and developing interventions to tackle digital exclusion within the hospital. This falls
under the work of the Health Inequalities Steering committee, which Pippa also now leads as part of her new
role, commenced in October 2023, as Lead Practice Educator for Health Inequalities. Within this role Pippa
is pushing forward the strategic development and delivery of a health inequalities programme with the aim
of improving access to care, patient experience & outcomes for those most at risk of experiencing health
inequalities. This includes a Health Inequalities Quality Improvement project and a Scoping Review of the
literature to understand the extent and quality of research, evidence, legislation and policies in the United
Kingdom, in relation to health inequalities in CYP with long-term health conditions.
At the University of Surrey, Pippa is a Research Fellow in Transition, working on a large, national Quality
Improvement (QI) project on the transition of young people into adult health services, coordinating the multicentre research arm of the initiative. The research evaluates the experience of transition into adult services
for young people with long-term health conditions, their parents and healthcare professionals and staff
involved in young people9s transition, in the context of a Model for Improvement for transition.
Pippa9s additional roles and responsibilities are as a Member of the BRC Junior Faculty and Applied Child
