MONTH 1 | INTRODUCTION
Month 1 Goal: Goal Setting and Relationship Building
Activity: The mentor and mentee meet to introduce themselves, share
profiles, and discuss their work experiences and responsibilities. They also
explore the mentee’s career aspirations, strengths, and areas for
development. Together, they establish 3-5 SMART (specific, measurable,
achievable, relevant, and time-bound) goals for the mentee to pursue over
the next 12 months.
Outcome: Establish a strong foundation for the relationship and clarity on
goals.
Mentee
Submit answer to the following
questions. Use this form:
a. What is important to you, and what
attracted you to this program?
b. Can you share your background
(academic and professional) and
the area you’ve practiced most?
c. Which skills are you confident in,
and how do you use them in your
work?
d. What areas of interest or skills
would you like to develop through
this program?
e. How would you like to grow over
the next 12 months through this
mentoring relationship?
Draft a SMART goals proposal (SGP)
using the provided template.
Email the mentor with the SGP draft
and schedule a meeting.
Meet with mentor and update SMART
goals per recommendations.
Submit the SMART goals.
Next meeting should be scheduled at
the end of the 1st meeting.
Mentor
Review questions submitted in virtual
folder and provide feedback at the
monthly scheduled meeting.
Review the mentee's SMART goals
proposal (SGP) before the meeting,
using the provided template for
guidance.
Meet with mentee and facilitate a
discussion to refine the mentee’s goals
and ensure they are specific,
measurable, achievable, relevant, and
time-bound.
Provide feedback and suggestions to
help the mentee align their goals with
career development opportunities.
Establish agreed goals and
expectations for mentoring partnership
by the end of the 1st meeting.
Next meeting should be scheduled at
the end of the 1st meeting.
