WHY SPORT IS IMPORTANT
1
Sports and exercise allow people to explore how their brain works
best in a safe and structured environment - especially important for
neurodivergent people who don't 'fit the mould' at school or work (I
found this was the case for me).
2
For people who may feel marginalised in other areas of their lives,
sport and exercise can provide a space to connect socially and
emotionally to others (for me, sports was a way to communicate
without speaking!).
3
Sports and exercise are great ways to push limits imposed by
oneself or others, build confidence, and discover new skills (I was a
shy child before I found sports).
4
Sports and exercise can help individuals regulate their emotions,
destress, and find headspace - very important when you're a
woman living in a man's world! (I HAVE TO exercise daily;
otherwise, I feel 'spikey').
5
Certain sports can 'level the playing field' and give those struggling
in other areas of their life a chance to thrive (this is something many
neurodivergent athletes have communicated to me).
