1. Find the game in everything
Could you list all the tasks you must
accomplish today and categorize them into
three groups: Urgent, Important, and Can
wait till tomorrow? Anything that can stay
should. I'd like you to focus first on the
Important tasks. Tackling urgent tasks first
can lead to feeling overwhelmed and
stressed, which we don't need.
To stay motivated, play the "beat the clock"
game. Could you estimate how long each
task will take and aim to finish it before the
set time? Accomplishing a job within a
shorter timeframe than anticipated gives a
sense of accomplishment and releases
dopamine, which can help carry you through
urgent tasks later.
2. Take regular small breaks
Please take regular, brief breaks throughout
the day instead of working a traditional 9-5
schedule with an hour-long lunch break. Our
busy brains need frequent short breaks. To
optimize productivity, try working for 50
minutes out of each hour and take a 10minute break. Initially, you might be
concerned that your output will suffer, but it
can increase. You'll have fewer moments of
zoning out and feel more energized and
refreshed when work is completed for the
day.
3. Take time for yourself
Creating a clear distinction between your
work and home life is essential. If you work
from home, it's effortless to log off from work
and rush straight to other household chores.
However, it's crucial to take some time, even
if it's just 15 minutes, for yourself to sit
quietly, gather your thoughts, and breathe. It
70 will be beneficial in the long run.
4. Delegate tasks to people who 'get you'.
When delegating, it's crucial to be mindful of
whom you choose. Most things in life,
including business advice and support, are
designed for neurotypical individuals. So, it's
essential to seek out and connect with people
who can understand you as an individual and
not solely focus on your business. It can save
you from a lot of stress and uncomfortable
conversations in the future.
5. Give yourself credit.
ADHD, a superpower, may not appeal to
some of us, especially when things aren't
flowing smoothly. However, it's also true that
having ADHD gives us the advantage of
thinking differently and seeing solutions and
pathways that neurotypical individuals may
overlook. We excel in thinking outside the
box or even disregarding the box altogether.
