The Road to
Rebellion
by Jennifer Cairns
Rebellion can be about adapting, fighting for and
building things anew. When you're marginalised, a
revolution is often needed to evolve hearts, minds
and attitudes so that paradigms can be shifted to
make room for a better way. Women and other
marginalised genders are still working towards more
equity in the business, entrepreneurial and creative
spaces. If we are neurodivergent or have any
disability, we are consistently overlooked and
misunderstood.
I've been on this road for a while. I've taken many
wrong turns and fallen into many potholes to get
where I am now. I'm neurodivergent, and maybe like
you, I think differently from many people. I have a
busy mind, have struggled with anxiety disorders
and have numerous chronic conditions like
fibromyalgia, paraneoplastic syndrome, dissociative
seizures, neuropathic pain, migraines, facial tics,
fatigue, blood cancer and more. I say this so you
know I get how hard, tiring, soul-sucking, and
uphill the battle is. Do I have it all figured out? Not! I
struggle many days, and no day is entirely "easy".
After navigating this road, though, I have realised a
lot and learnt a ton. As we go down this road of
rebellion - to build a better life and business that
suits US and OUR definition of success that SELFEMPOWERS us - I can share a few keys turns not to
miss and what some of the hard-earned lessons have
been.
