Goals - Why They Still Matter:
without a map, you might end up
anywhere, or nowhere at all.
In the world of small business often, we're
told to set big, long-term goals. But what if
that's tough for you, maybe because of the
way your brain works or health challenges?
Goal setting in small businesses is often
compared to a journey or planning a trip.
What is Goal-Setting in Simple Terms?
You decide where you want to go and then
figure out the steps to get there. In
business, it's about choosing what you
want to achieve and then making plans to
make it happen. Your plan is your map that
you follow.
But for those of us whose brains are wired
a bit differently, the traditional approaches
seldom work.
What is also not a part of the main
conversation about goal-setting is that –
not everyone can picture a future filled with
achievements, especially if you're dealing
with neurodivergence or chronic illness.
Traditional goal setting asks you to look far
ahead, but what if your telescope is a bit
foggy?

It shows you where you're headed and
keeps you on track. Goals are supposed to
help us stay focused and move our
business forward.
2. Goals: To Have or Not to Have?
Without goals, a small business can be like
a boat without a rudder – lots of effort, but
little progress. Goals give you direction and
a way to measure success. But what if
setting these goals feels like trying to catch
a cloud?
At the same time, in business, where
unpredictability is a given, the landscape on
the map keeps changing, and no one has
provided you with the weather forecast for
the whole year to account for.
A New Perspective on Goal Setting:
What if we shift our focus? What if we aim
for the best possible version of today?
adapting a 'better now' mindset ensures
we're constantly moving forward, making a
better future more attainable. We are
actively shaping it.
It's about making today the best it can be,
to pave the way for a brighter tomorrow. If
we focus on today's actions this is how we
can shape our future success in a more
manageable way.
