Ionian Village IV On-The-Go
Funded to 2025
Ionian Village IV On-The-Go was funded by Leadership
100 for $75,000 over a five-year period, at $15,00 a year, in
2018. However, the program was not held in 2020 and 2021.
IV On-the-Go is the traveling retreat program of the Office
of Ionian Village that promises to give young people a taste
of a unique and interactive approach to youth ministry. IV
On-the-Go provides the opportunity for even more young
people to interact with the Ionian Village ministry right
here in America. Just like at camp, participants encounter
the Orthodox faith in an up close and memorable way. IV
On-the-Go provides an engaging ministry for the youth of
the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese and is open to every
parish and youth group in the United States running from
September to April annually.
The five-year $75,000 grant is broken down to $15,000 a
year for 10 retreats ($1,500 budget per retreat). The Ionian
Village Office arranges each event with the host parish,
which includes travel and lodging accommodations, and
the staff needed to execute each weekend retreat. From
September 2023 through March 2024, the following retreats
were held:
Holy Cross, Brooklyn, NY on Saturday, October 14, 2023
Holy Trinity, Raleigh, NC on Saturday, November 18, 2023
St. Anthony, Pasadena, CA on Friday, December 8 and
Saturday, December 9, 2023
34
Hellenic Dance Festival, Orlando, FL on Saturday, January
13, 2024
St. Katherine, Falls Church, VA on Saturday, February 10,
2024
The goal is to have 10 retreats per year (September to
April), which would make the Ionian Village program more
accessible to those unable to travel to Greece. With a
renewed effort to promote and schedule IV On-the-Go
retreats, the 2023-2024 season held 6 successful retreats,
utilizing 25 previous Staff Members to run the various
retreats, and reaching 165 GOYAns. With the additional
funding provided, scheduling has begun for the 2024-2025
season beginning with 6 parishes on the waitlist from the
previous season.
Expenses for IV On-the-Go include: airfare and hotel (only
when needed, as an effort is made to utilize local staff
alumni to implement the retreat to keep costs down and as
they are familiar with the communities), supplies for
activities, food, rental cars/taxis, and shipping if needed.
