CHRONOGRAPH 1
‘I w as blown aw ay. It looked so much better in real life than in the
initial renders . The finishing on the hands , markers and case is , dare I
say, almost Grand Seiko-like , and y ou hav e to see in person how w ell
they catch the light . The Art Deco details like the pin stripes at the
centre of the dial, combined with japanese touches like the Kanji Kurono
logo and the kyudo arrow in the minute subdial really set this apart
from other chronographs . It really is a beautifully designed dial…..I
hav e to applaud Kurono for their ov erall execution of the Kurono Toky o
Chronograph 1, and hopefully one day I can see one of the rev erse
panda models in real life as w ell. Their future releases are definitely
w orth keeping an ey e on.’

‘As y ou’d expect for a project led by a w atchmaker whose stock in trade
is the crafting of high end custom timepieces , little details abound that
make the Chronograph 1 special and distinctiv e . The hour markers , for
example , are polished steel studs , and each sub-dial features extremely
fine concentric guilloche patterns . My fav orite small touch is the hand
used for the elapsed minute counter at 9:00. It’s slightly ov ersized, and
its shape is based on the Japanese “kyudu” arrow, which symbolizes
“truth, goodness , and beauty.” It’s a small touch that not only adds a
unique visual twist to the Chronograph 1, but is also steeped in meaning,
something that Japanese w atchmaking does particularly w ell.’

‘The dial is a highly complex panda or rev erse panda style with a
pinstripe centre , radially brushed silv er large registers cutting into the
exquisite grey minute track. The printing on the dial is razor sharp, and
the classic chronograph date window at 6 is balanced by the classic
Asaoka detail of a long lonely double indice at 12 .’
