BROADWAY REACH
Local Students Shine
in the Spotlight!
Five accomplished arts educators at four Palm Beach
County public schools conducted a series of 10 workshop
sessions exploring the content and themes of Peter Pan
the Musical with revised book by Larissa Fasthorse. These
workshops culminated in student performances and
exhibition in the Dreyfoos Hall lobby prior to the February
15 matinee of Peter Pan the Musical. The event featured
choral performances by Palm Springs Community Middle
School and Spanish River Community High School singers,
a dance performance by The Conservatory School dancers
and a visual art exhibit by U.B. Kinsey/Palmview Elementary
School of the Arts artists.
Following their presentations, the 150 participating
students and chaperones took their seats in Dreyfoos Hall
to enjoy the 2pm performance and participated in a postperformance discussion with members of the cast and
crew. The lively talk examined the show's themes and social
commentary, representation, the creative process behind
the production, the challenges of performing on tour and
personal connections students had to the story.
The program is internally evaluated by an independent
consulting group. The evaluation assesses academic and
arts student learning through participation in Broadway
Reach workshops and performances.
