THE BILL REID GALLERY
The Museum of Vancouver (MOV) connects
Vancouverites to each other and connects the
city to the world. An enthusiastic civic advocate,
MOV is dedicated to encouraging a deeper understanding of Vancouver through stories, objects and
shared experiences. A visit to the museum is an
easy way to learn about Vancouver’s past. The
Museum of Vancouver exhibits vividly depict the
city’s story from the time of explorations to the
beginning of World War I. MOV is located in scenic
Vanier Park with the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre
and the Vancouver Maritime Museum. Only a 5
mins drive from downtown and a 20 mins stroll
along the ocean boardwalk to either; Granville
Island or Kitsilano Beach. MOV is easily accessible
by False Creek Ferries, Mobi Bike Share Program
and City Transit.
The Bill Reid Gallery was named after the
acclaimed Haida artist Bill Reid (1920 – 1998) who
was a master goldsmith, carver, sculptor, writer,
broadcaster and spokesman. Nestled in the heart
of downtown Vancouver, the Gallery is home to
the Simon Fraser University Bill Reid Collection and
special exhibitions of contemporary Indigenous Art
of the Northwest Coast of North America. The
Bill Reid Gallery is Canada’s only public gallery
dedicated to contemporary Indigenous Art of
the Northwest Coast. The Gallery honours Bill
Reid by exhibiting the Bill Reid SFU Art Collection,
and presenting special exhibitions and programs
that build bridges between all peoples, including
Indigenous and settler populations. Our mandate
is to promote a greater awareness of Indigenous
cultures and values.
