community engagement
Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa strives to be a force for good in our local
communities. Countless members of staff give up their own time volunteering at local charities
and events including “Feeding South Florida”, cleaning up Fort Lauderdale Beach, giving blood
and helping out at Humane Society of Broward County.
“National Root Beer Float Day” is an annual event hosted and presented by The Fort Lauderdale
Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa. Marriott International traces its beginnings to a humble root
beer stand opened by J. Willard and Alice Marriott in the early 1900s. As a nod to this heritage and
in recognition of the company’s support of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals for 35 years,
Marriott International is once again hosting this annual event. Marriott properties across the
U.S. and Canada will offer root beer floats to guests in exchange for a donation to the Children’s
Miracle Network Hospital in the local market.
Sustainability & Social
Impact - serve 360 initiative
Today, business plays an increasingly critical role in taking on our world’s most pressing social,
environmental and economic issues. With our size and scale, we have a global responsibility and
a unique opportunity to be a force for good. Guided by our 2025 Sustainability and Social Impact
Goals, as well as the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we commit to creating positive and
sustainable impact wherever we do business. We are committed to reducing our environmental
footprint across our portfolio by 2025 – reducing water intensity by 15 percent, carbon
intensity by 30 percent, and food waste by 50 percent. During this time, we are also dedicated
to contributing 15,000 hours of volunteer service to support community engagement.
