Everything You

About Sea Turtle
Nesting Season In
Fort Lauderdale
Sadly, only an estimated 1 in 1,000 will
survive, make it to the ocean and even to
adulthood. The natural obstacles faced by sea
turtles is alarming, however the increasing
threats caused by humans, driving them to
extinction is even more staggering.
Due to sea turtles becoming disoriented by
artificial light and meeting DEP standards, the
resort’s street lighting changes during nesting
season. You will notice that the street lights
and the bulbs used in most buildings along the
A1A are a darker amber color.
Thankfully, these species are protected by
the Department of Environmental Protection
(DEP), the City of Fort Lauderdale and the
Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach
Resort & Spa.
A great way to witness and experience the
amazing sea turtle nesting season during
your stay in Fort Lauderdale, is to visit The
Museum of Discovery and Science. Here, they
hosts walks several nights a week during the
summer months of June and July in search for
nesting Loggerheads.
As a result, Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor
Beach does it’s very best to protect these
creatures each year, through conservation
projects and special procedures, ensuring
the safety and procreation of sea turtles.
Sea turtle season runs from March 1 to
October 31 every year. Fort Lauderdale is
for everyone, including our sea turtles!
