after we opened our doors to the public on august 19,
1912, Fairmont Copley Plaza quickly became a beacon in
the social and political life of Boston. We’ve been visited by
almost every american president since William Howard taft.
Boston is well known for its many architectural wonders
and one of the city’s most storied buildings, the old South
Church, is visible from our Copley Square-facing guest
rooms.
this historic church has welcomed a number of significant
people in history through its doors such as Samuel adams
and his Sons of Liberty, Phillis Wheatley (a freed slave and
the 1st published african american poetess), Elizabeth
vergoose (aka Mother Goose), and Benjamin Franklin was
even baptized in the church in 1706.
