NADiNE - LEAD NAvigAtOr
1. What led you to become the Lead Navigator at Renaissance Edmonton?
I love connecting people to our locale around the hotel, so this position is a natural 昀椀t. It’s so
satisfying to hear back from guests when they enjoy discovering the recommendations I have
for them.
2. What does your job entail and what does a usual day look like for you?
A usual day includes helping guests discover unique local destinations, or sharing how our
hotel itself connects to the story of our neighbourhood and the wider city. I also work to develop
our Navigator program which keeps all our staff in touch with what’s going on around
Edmonton.
3. What can you do that Google can’t?
I can personalize a recommendation in a way that Google can’t. My experience as a Navigator
means I know the hidden gems and can approach guests with suggestions in line with the type
of adventure they’re seeking, even if that adventure lies right here at the hotel.
4. What do you enjoy most about working at Renaissance Edmonton?
I love my job because every day is unique. No two guests are the same and I get to know them
and a part of their story when they come to the Navigator desk looking for assistance. Plus I
get to do it with an amazing team of Navigators. We truly have one of the best teams in all of
hospitality.
5. What’s your favourite memory with a guest?
One of my favourite memories is with a guest who was stranded in Edmonton due to a
cancelled 昀氀ight to Paris, where she was meant to visit her daughter. I told her she looked like a
lady who liked to have fun, and her face brightened up. I showed her our “Passport to
DIscover” which takes guests on an interactive guide around our hotel’s unique design features
which tell parts of Edmonton’s story. She had so much fun and even says that her detour in
Edmonton was one of the highlights of her trip.
6. What’s the biggest challenge with the job?
People might not believe that Renaissance Edmonton is more than just your regular airport
hotel. We have so many great local discoveries like distilleries and local boutiques around our
hotel! They think that there isn’t really anything to do at an airport hotel but that’s far from the
truth.
7. What’s your go-to YEG recommendation and why?
My go-to YEG recommendation is Fort Edmonton Park. It’s a living museum with local history
from the 1800’s to the 1920’s. It’s great for visitors of all ages with fun and engaging special
events all year long- like adult-only nights or family-friendly festivals.
