The Weald Sixth

One of the first things that stood out to me
about The Weald was the sense of community.
Having come from another school I was particularly
nervous at the prospect of having to make new
friends. However, the Sixth Form staff and students
were so welcoming that I immediately felt that I
fitted in.
Being a smaller college means that the class sizes
themselves are smaller, and so the one to one time
with teachers, and also their feedback, is much more
personalised. In addition, we are treated as adults
compared to secondary school.
I was made to feel very welcome at The Weald,
especially as an external student. Right from
the beginning there were many opportunities to get
to know people in the Sixth Form, including a team
building event at the beginning of the year. The
Weald being a smaller community made it much
easier to get to know people.
The tight community has many benefits, such as
smaller classes, which result in you having a better
relationship with your teachers, and I find it a much
easier environment to work in.
The smaller community also means that you can
get to know the support team and there is always
someone to help.
There is a lot of support for a student’s future after
Sixth Form, such as UCAS support from a careers
advisor and a University Fair visit for students to help
explore ideas for what they would like to do in the
future.
There are also various opportunities for
strengthening your personal statement/CV for when
you make university/apprenticeship/job applications
such as a Super Curricular option (during school) and
a work experience week.
