HOW IS THE COURSE TAUGHT AND ASSESSED?
A Level
• 3 exams totalling 4 hours = 70%
• 1 Practical Activity = 30%
SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
• Grade 5 in GCSE Physical Education is
essential (grade 6 is recommended)
• If you have not studied PE at GCSE, you may
be accepted onto the course at the discretion
of the subject leader.
This is a fascinating, engaging and
fun course; with a mix of theory,
class discussions, hands-on competitive
tasks and practical activities to help
understanding in the classroom. Abby
Physics is the fundamental science that lies at
the heart of modern engineering, technology
and medicine. You will learn a range of topics
from the smallest particles known to man
to the biggest stars in the universe. In Year 1
you will study mechanics, materials, waves,
electricity and light. In Year 2 you will study
particle physics, further mechanics, electric and
magnetic fields, thermal energy, nuclear decay
oscillations and astrophysics.
If you have ever wondered, ‘How does that
work?’ -then Physics is for you.”
HOW IS THE COURSE TAUGHT AND ASSESSED?
Two topic-based papers and a final synoptic
paper. There is also a practical skills
endorsement that is not examined externally.
SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
• Grade 5 in GCSE Maths in the higher paper,
although a 6 is recommended as there is
a significant mathematical demand in the
course +
• Grade 6-6 in GCSE Combined Science
(a Grade 5-5 on the higher paper will be
considered at the discretion of the subject
leader)
or
• Grade 5 in GCSE Maths in the higher paper,
although a 6 is recommended +
• Grade 6 in GCSE Physics and a Grade 6 in
another Science (a Grade 5 on the higher
paper will be considered by the subject
leader
