WHY CHOOSE HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE?
This course includes both vital practical and
academic knowledge and understanding of
the Health and Social Care sector. This subject
and area of study is becoming increasingly
important to our society in terms of the new
Health and Social Care reforms. If you are
interested in a career in HSC management,
Nursing or Social Work, success in this Diploma
course will help enable you to obtain degree
entry in Early Childhood Studies and the Social
Work Applied degrees as well as college entry.
It is also an industry ready Level 3 Diploma
qualification and would count for actual
employment entry level requirements.
HOW IS THE COURSE TAUGHT AND ASSESSED?
Split between coursework and exam, you
will cover nine disciplines including, amongst
others: developing social care relationships,
anatomy, infection control, safeguarding,
supporting people with learning difficulties,
physiological conditions and nutrition, equality
diversity and rights and safeguarding. It is
equivalent to a 1.5 A level qualification
SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
• Grade 4 in GCSE English Language. This
course requires high level literacy skills as
there is an emphasis on coursework in some
considerable volume.
History is a subject which offers variety, interest
and excitement, as well as the chance to more
fully understand the complexities of the world
around you. The intrigue of the early Tudor
period, the turmoil and tragedy of Russia in
revolution and the deep political resonance of
civil rights in the USA are all full of powerful
stories and perspectives.
HOW IS THE COURSE TAUGHT AND ASSESSED?
History is taught in a a variety of ways including
group work, presentations, use of film and
documentary clips, flipped learning, and more
traditional lecture-type lessons. There is a
strong emphasis on the importance of reading
and extended writing and extended writing. Two
of the three units are examination based, with
the coursework element being a 3500-4500
word essay worth 20% of the final grade.
SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
• Grade 5 in GCSE History +
• Grade 4 in GCSE English Language
History has not only allowed me to
engage with the events of the past,
but also to consider the effect this has
on the present. The teachers are always
available for guidance and advice to help
me further both my knowledge and essay

about Health and Social Care. It
teaches us skills that are applicable in
any environment. It is challenging and
demanding and needs dedication. But the
end result is the best feeling in the world!
