When I started Sixth Form, I wasn’t sure what
I wanted my next steps to be, so I focused on
choosing A-Level subjects that I was interested in:
English Literature, English Language and History.
I’m now going into my second year studying Law at
Oxford University, a course which balances lectures
and group ‘tutorials’, as well as practicing law in
mock trials, or ‘moots’. I am able to explore many
different areas of law, from contract law to criminal,
and have the opportunity to learn from leading
academics in those fields. Being able to study so
many different areas of Law at university helps me
consider a wide variety of potential career paths.
Since we get to choose modules to study next year,
I am choosing between medical law, family law,
and feminist perspectives on law. Going forward, I’m
looking to get work experience in a legal clinic as, at
the moment, my future goal is to specialise either in
human rights law or criminal defence.
I am currently in the fourth year of my medical
degree at the University of East Anglia. My
course entails an integrated learning experience with
alternating theory and placement weeks. The theory
weeks include GP training, problem-based learning,
anatomy with dissection, and lectures. Having
placement from my first year made it easier to
relate the theory I was learning to real patients and
has improved my communication skills massively.
Outside of medicine, I work for my university as a
student services resident, and also as a vaccinator
and clinical skills assistant at my local hospital,
doing ECGs, taking bloods and other clinicals skills
within my clinical ability. After medical school, I hope
to complete my training as a paediatrician.

After Sixth Form I started a degree
apprenticeship with Rolls Royce Motor Cars at
Goodwood. I’m working towards a BEng in Electrical
and Electronic engineering which will take four
years, studying one day a week at The University
of Chichester. The rest of the week I’m at work,
learning new skills on placements in different parts
of the business. I’m now working on the new electric
Rolls Royce and over the summer I’m going to spend
a month in Germany on advanced electric vehicle
training. The degree apprenticeship suits me better
than going to uni full-time because I learn so much at
work, I’m earning a wage and my employer pays my
tuition fees so I won’t end up with a massive student
debt.
Throughout my time at The Weald, I was heavily
involved with the Greenpower electric race car team
and I’m sure it was my experience here that helped
me get my apprenticeship at Rolls Royce.
After leaving The Weald, I went to study
Digital Film Technology at the University of
Chichester. This was the perfect choice for me as it
allowed me to study a practical film course whilst
still being able to continue my freelance work in
the Sussex area. During my 3rd year of university I
got the chance to visit Creative Technology at their
CTFest networking event. Whilst there I reconnected
with Sam Hatcher, another ex student of The Weald.
Sam has been working for CT for the last 5+ years
and recommended I look at possible jobs with them.
This led to me applying and getting a technician
role, where I have been for the last year, travelling
the world, working on large scale events and
broadcasts. I plan to continue in this industry and
hopefully work my way up through the company.
