GETTING TO VARNDEAN
Varndean College is served by the 5B bus
service which stops directly outside the main
entrance and operates a very frequent service.
You can either take the direct 5B bus service or
alternatively most other bus routes will take you into
Brighton town centre where you can then change
onto the 5B service from there.
FROM HOVE/HANGLETON
A frequent service from Hangleton, via Hove
and Brighton, directly to Surrenden Road
where it stops outside the College.

FROM MILE OAK/PORTSLADE

Run from Mile Oak, via Portslade to Brighton
town centre where you can change onto the
5B.
Runs from Mile Oak and Hangleton to

Hollingbury, stopping outside the College.
However, this is a limited service, only departing
Mile Oak between 6.40am – 7.17am. There is
also only one return service leaving Varndean at
4.28pm to Churchill Square only.
FROM SOUTHWICK

Runs from Southwick, via Portslade, Hove and
Brighton town centre up to Ditchling Road.
FROM KEMP TOWN AND QUEENS PARK
School bus service operating in early
morning and in afternoon only between
Queens Park district and Dorothy Stringer School
(Loder Road).
Or alternatively take a bus into Brighton town
centre and change.

FROM NEWHAVEN/SEAFORD
Runs via Peacehaven, Saltdean and
Rottingdean into central Brighton. You can
then change onto the 5B bus from there.

FROM further afield
For those students who travel from further
afield, the journey is easily manageable due
to the wide range of connecting bus services or rail
services available.
The closest train station to the College is Preston
Park Station, which is approximately a 15-minute
walk away. Various services stop at this station,
some of which are direct services.
FROM THE WEST
From Worthing, there is an hourly direct service to
Preston Park via Lancing, Shoreham, Portslade and
Hove with the journey time from Worthing taking
only 20 minutes. There are also many additional
services via changing at Brighton Station.
FROM THE NORTH
From Haywards Heath, there are direct trains calling
at Wivelsfield, Burgess Hill and Hassocks. The
journey time from Haywards Heath is approximately
16 minutes.
FROM THE EAST
From Lewes, trains into Brighton stop at London
Road station. London Road station is close to bus
services to the college, or a 20-minute walk should
you prefer.
