COURSE LEVELS EXPLAINED
Advanced Level (Level 3)
A full-time two-year programme which is equivalent to at least 3
A Levels and which can be made up of a combination of Level 3
courses.
This could include:
A Levels
International Baccalaureate Diploma
Vocational Courses
BTEC Certificate (equivalent to ½ A Level) *
BTEC Extended Certificate (equivalent to 1 A Level)
CTEC Extended Certificate (equivalent to 1 A Level)
CTEC Diploma (equivalent to 1 A Level)
RSL Extended Certificate (equivalent to 1 A Level)
WJEC Applied Diploma (equivalent to 1 A Level)
BTEC Foundation Diploma (equivalent to 1.5 A Levels)
BTEC Diploma (equivalent to 2 A Levels)
* A one-year programme available in your second year of study only
T Level (equivalent to 3 A Levels)
Foundation Level (Level 2)
A full-time one-year programme, which is equivalent to at least 3
or 4 GCSEs and which can be made up of GCSEs and vocational
courses. This could include:
GCSEs
BTEC First Award
All students are expected to be full-time
and on an appropriate study programme
of at least 16 hours per week
In addition to your course study time,
your programme will consist of:
● Tutorial (compulsory for all students)
which monitors your progress
throughout college and your
progression on to the next stage of
your career. Your weekly tutorial will
be 90 minutes
● Planned Study your teachers will
set you 4 hours of work per subject
to complete in your study periods.
You will have some time on your
timetable to support you making a
start on that during the college day.
● Enrichment Activity (compulsory for
all Year 1 students), participation in
one of our weekly clubs, societies,
visits, work experience or workrelated activities (see pages 64-67).
● Additional Learning Support
(if needed)
● Careers, university or further
education advice and guidance
● Participation in our Aspire
Programme for those progressing
to competitive courses at Oxbridge
and Russell Group universities, or
degrees in Medicine, Veterinary
Science and Dentistry (see pages
12-13)
