Varndean Football Academy
From September 2024, as part of its enrichment programme, the College will be running its own new
Varndean Football Academy programme. This programme will provide high quality football coaching,
with timetabled training sessions and match fixtures. Successful students will have two scheduled training
sessions incorporated into their timetable, alongside Wednesday afternoon fixtures for both 1st and 2nd
team squads. All Sports Academy students will also be able to access the College Fitness Suite outside
of their curriculum timetable throughout the week.

At Varndean College, we are proud to offer the DofE Gold Award
to students. No matter whether you are a complete novice or
have already completed Bronze and Silver, we welcome all
students keen to complete the requisite period of engagement
in the different sections (Skills, Volunteering, Physical and
Residential) as well as providing training and supervision for the
expedition section of the Award.
We run the practice element of the expedition in the Brecon
Beacons, usually at the end of March, with the assessed portion
in Dartmoor at the end of May. Participants receive tailor-made
training during their enrichment lessons by a qualified and
experienced tutor, who organises and supervises all elements
of the expedition. Along with expert training, participants are
provided with kits (tents, cooking stove, emergency equipment)
to help them complete their expedition. Whilst they are required to provide their own personal kit, there are
also financial options available as well as personal kit for hire.
Assistance and mentoring is also available for participants as they progress through the other sections of
the Award and students can choose a separate enrichment activity that will directly count towards their skill,
physical or volunteering sections.
