Energy Haircut at Hari’s
The Energy Haircut administered by Sabrina Picot was featured last
year in KCR around the same time in 2023. Emily Cotterhill nee
Williams wrote a glowing account of this rather fascinating experience
at Hari’s salon in Kensington. It made sense to try it out again but
with a male perspective since it’s that time of the year again when we
contemplate the past year in an attempt to understand where are lives
are headed and what might have been whilst also being thankful for our
existence. We all practise some form of introspection and look for ways
to improve ourselves in the New Year after the pomp and festivities of
end of year celebration.
Just to give you an idea behind the process, Sabrina’s ‘art’ is not a
mere haircut but a suitably spiritual ritual to release hair toxins from
emotional and physical memories of stress, crystallised in our hair, from
past experiences and traumas thus enhancing our vital energy and stimulating the cranial meridians. In an hour and a half of this experience
which in my estimation is equal parts mediation, sound therapy, head
massage and the thrill, bliss and beauty of having your locks sheered
with a Japanese sword. It is a rejuvenating experience for the hair,
body and mind. It was pioneered in France more than 10 year by Jill
Andrieu and Sabrina Picot is one of the certi昀椀ed practitioners of this
form of Trichotherapy.
Sabrina’s ‘performance’ starts with the roots of our heart’ as she likes
to call them – her hands- performing a vigorous head massage, to
loosen up the body and allow the subject to seek inwards. During this
massage, the pineal gland is stimulated whilst the cranial meridians are
detoxi昀椀ed. A meditative stage is encouraged. This leads to the receiver
hand being eventually handed the Tanto – the Japanese sword at the
heat of the ‘haircut’ part of the experience. I was asked to focus upon a
particular thought perhaps something I wanted to achieve or conversely, leave behind. This sword/knife with roots in Samurai history is the
divination medium that resonates with the autonomic nervous system
and hence energises the body and mind.
Thankfully, I have a recording of the process which we shall soon post
on this magazine’s website and Instagram. It documents the Energy
Haircut as a whole – all 90 minutes of it - suitably soundtracked by
Sabrina’s carefully curated tracks thar run the gamut from ambient pop
to ethnic drums and hip hop beats. The (tiny) bit of belly fat which I
sneakily try and suck in eased o昀昀 and collapsed within the 昀椀rst minute
and I fell into a meditative state of dreamy contemplation. Emotions
ran wild yet felt processed in a very ordered way. Calmness was the
overriding sensation and the Tanto’s impactful blade seemed to be stimulating introspective responses within the body, mind and soul. The
perfumed environment, again dextrously achieved by Sabrina, became a
garden of thought.
A lot of people feel overwhelmed during the process and crying is common. I felt an ethereal wholesomeness that set me at peace. At the end
of the experience, Sabrina handed me my locks in a blue velvet pouch
and recommended that I bequeath them mindfully back to earth. I’d
wished to let go o昀昀 my guilty feelings in terms of past failing and this
seemed uncannily apposite. The positive energy from the experience
resonated all over and the calmness persisted. Hugely recommended!
