The Mitre
The Mitre
Once a 8hostel9 for Hampton Court guests visiting Henry VIII, and
situated directly opposite the Palace itself, The Mitre is now a must-visit
luxury boutique hotel, even for non-history bufs.
Filled with intriguing antiques, hand-painted de Gournay wallpaper,
and featuring a newly renovated riverside terrace restaurant, it seems
that no expense has been spared in the refurbishment of this 17th-century Grade-II listed hotel.
When you step of the bustling main road, the hotel9s welcoming and
laid-back atmosphere is immediately apparent. Guests are warmly
welcomed with a complimentary glass of wine: a signature gesture
extended throughout all Signet hotels.
Every room is uniquely crafted, ranging from the charming pet-friendly 8heritage rooms9 inspired by hunting, boating, and sports, to the
exquisite Signature Suites, The King Henry VIII Suite and Catharine
Parr Suite. These both come equipped with a dedicated butler, turn
down service, a VIP car valet, private parking space - and a Sloe Gin and
Whisky decanter.
The Coppernose restaurant is a vibrant, yet relaxed restaurant and wine
bar, ofering panoramic views of the River Thames. And their 1665
restaurant, named after the date The Mitre was built, boasts a huge
outdoor patio terrace for 8al fresco9 dining. In the summer, The Mitre9s
terrace is home to one of two Whispering Angel bars in the UK.
The small quirky touches are what makes The Mitre so special: freshly-baked cookies hanging on the door, a retro jukebox in the cosy,
book-olled library, door signs depicting King Henry 8In the Tub9 (do not
disturb), and a huge commissioned map of the area by illustrator Gwen
Burns. Additionally, the staf9s dedication and professionalism truly set
this establishment apart.
