to serving our region with a deep
respect for diversity, equity and

As a beacon of information and community connection, our
mission is not just to tell the stories of our region but also to
ensure that the teams behind the scenes represent a wide
range of perspectives, backgrounds and experiences. In every
show produced and project completed, we aim to nurture a safe
and inclusive environment that sparks new ideas and invites
new opportunities for understanding.
Over the past year, we’ve continued to share previously untold
stories about our region’s rural and farming communities,
deepened our commitment to member-supported music
exploration on 90.9 The Bridge and broadened our connection
to our local community through in-person events and
performances designed to elevate a wide range of voices.
This year’s DEI Report includes snapshots of how far we’ve come
— and how far we still need to go. It provides an honest, datadriven look at our workforce, leadership and content. But more
than that, it challenges us to think critically about how we can
continue to meet the needs of the communities we serve.

Letter from David Burke:
The Kansas City PBS Board
of Directors champions
the role of diversity, equity
and inclusion within our
organization. As a board,
we understand that Kansas
City PBS’ organizational
health relies on our ability to
re昀氀ect our diverse audiences in our staff, leadership and
content.
Through the work of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Subcommittee, we can steer the station toward
equitable practices by facilitating open discussions and
overseeing this annual DEI Report. This report focuses
on the organization’s efforts to consider diversity, equity
and inclusion in every aspect of the operation. Thanks
to the advice and guidance of our subcommittee, this
report keeps us honest about the important strides
we’ve made and the work to be done.
Most importantly, this report celebrates local and
national programming that highlights a diversity of
voices and perspectives. Here at Kansas City PBS, we
are building a public media organization that truly
represents the people who live and work here — and
that is something to be excited about. On behalf of the
Board of Directors, thank you for taking the time to
review this report.
