90.9 THE BRIDGE
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Black History Month
Throughout February, The Bridge honored Black History Month by handing off the mic to
Black and African American Kansas City-area musicians who shared nine tracks that de昀椀ne
them as artists, creators and community leaders. The series included artists such as Les
Izmore, Seyko, Marty Hillard, Malek Azrael and more.
Juneteenth
On Juneteenth, The Bridge devoted its airways to playing groundbreaking songs of justice,
peace, struggle and triumph by Black artists. Featured artists included Sister Rosetta Tharpe
and Billie Holiday, and modern innovators — such as Janelle Monáe, Sampa the Great and
Devon Gil昀椀llian — and local artists with powerful voices and platforms, including Krystle
Warren, Julia Haile and Flare Tha Rebel.
Women’s History Month/International Women’s Day
The Bridge commemorated Women’s History Month by honoring the vital musical
contributions of women and gender-expansive artists. This included another edition of
9 From 9, where The Bridge elevates the voices of nine musicians to share nine tracks
that de昀椀ne them as an artist. The teams also created a Spotify playlist packed with songs
created by femme-identifying folks.
