Explore the stories, hopes and accomplishments of Kansas City’s vibrant Latino
community. This cinematic documentary series showcases the experiences
of Latino artists, athletes, entrepreneurs, immigrants and proud Americans,
highlighting the community’s experiences in the metro.
En La Sala
Presented in collaboration with AMERI’KANA TV, En La Sala is a concert special
that blends classic rock and Latin American rhythms. En La Sala, Spanish for
“in the living room,” was 昀椀lmed during a surprise show at the Folly Theater in
Kansas City and features performances from international rock band Making
Movies in collaboration with vocalist and trumpet player Asdru Sierra of the
Grammy Award-winning band Ozomatli.
The Heroic True-Life Adventures of Alvin Brooks
This documentary celebrates the extraordinary life of Alvin Brooks, a man who
dedicated over six decades of his life to making Kansas City a better place. Born
in 1932 in rural Arkansas, Brooks faced adversity from the start. His resilience led
him to become one of Kansas City’s 昀椀rst Black police of昀椀cers in the 1950s and,
later, the city’s 昀椀rst Black department head. His leadership didn’t stop there; he
founded the AdHoc Group Against Crime, becoming a national 昀椀gure in civil
rights and local activism.
