SPOTLIGHT SERIES
The Kansas City PBS Spotlight Series is a free event series featuring local and national documentaries.
Healing Hate Spotlight Screening
In April 2024, Kansas City PBS hosted a screening of Healing Hate, a local 昀椀lm that delves into two
Kansas City-area hate crimes. The 昀椀lm features the stories of Mindy Corporon, who lost her son and
father in the 2014 antisemitic shooting at the Jewish Community Center in Overland Park, Kansas,
and Sunayana Dumala, whose husband was killed in a 2017 hate crime in Olathe, Kansas.
We Are Latinos Spotlight Screening
In October 2023, Kansas City PBS celebrated the premiere of the second installment of We Are
Latinos by 昀椀lmmaker Victor Antillanca with a screening event at Screenland Armour Theatre in
North Kansas City. The 昀椀lm highlighted the work of three local trailblazers making strides in their
respective communities. After the screening, Antillanca and the 昀椀lm’s three subjects sat on a panel
to discuss the 昀椀lm and answer audience questions.
GOSPEL Spotlight Screening
In February 2024, an evening screening event included a preview of GOSPEL by Dr. Henry Louis
Gates, Jr., an engaging panel and performances from Kami Woodard, who was named the Best
Gospel Artist of 2023 by the Kansas City People’s Choice Awards. Following the screening, more
than 200 guests enjoyed an interactive panel discussion with GOSPEL 昀椀lmmaker and director Stacey
Holman, Grammy-nominated singer Brandon Estelle and award-winning singer and TV personality
Lynda Randle.
American Buffalo Spotlight Screening
This event featured a preview screening of Ken Burns’ 昀椀lm The American Buffalo and a panel
