DESCRIPTION
There is a purity in Georgian architecture. The interiors
and proportions have integrity; however, they are
decorated. In this 19th-century example, handsome,
substantial-sized rooms are plentiful, with an emphasis
on interesting shapes and original sash windows that
give beautiful light and views to the landscaped garden
outside. This unlisted sleeping beauty is open to a
sensitive reimagination, either by stripping back or
adding according to taste.
Accessed via double doors, the impressive entrance
hall with a fine oak staircase leads through to a
reception area of two individual rooms with original
oak flooring; the trio a former ballroom in its Georgian
heyday. In its current layout, each space remains vast
accommodating large comfortable furniture and an
inglenook fireplace at one end. There is a sizeable cellar
space below. The Clive Christian kitchen/breakfast
room is in the late 1800’s addition to the house, with
French doors that open onto a terrace. Reached by the
staircase and landing, which is far wider than usual, is
the principal bedroom with large en suite. There are
further bedrooms and bathroom along the hall.
