Newton Hall - Flipbook - Page 4
DESCRIPTION
Newton Hall is a magnificent Grade II Listed country house,
believed to date from the 17th Century with latter day
additions, with an historic connection as the former home of
infamous Everest climber George Mallory.
This substantial Hall is constructed of whitewashed rendered
elevations with stone dressings, the walls adorned with
beautiful climbers, all surmounted by a slate roof. The
elevations are punctured by some original leaded windows,
Crittall windows and French doors to the principal ground
floor rooms, all flooding the house with natural light.
The handsome façade is only amplified by the interior, which
has been the subject of a sympathetic extension, renovation
and remodelling scheme to present the most sublime interior
which beautifully fuses the latest contemporary fittings with
a wealth of original features. These features include exposed
chamfered beams to the walls and ceilings, open Jamb
fireplaces with stone fire breasts and large stone slab lintels
above, carved oak panelling, tiled and oak floors, and an
impressive carved oak staircase.
The house is fitted with a Control 4 system which controls
the surround sound fitted to the principal ground and first
floor rooms, the zoned heating, lighting, TVs, electric gate
and zoned alarm system with CCTV.
A set of solid oak doors open into the entrance hall with oak
floor, a huge open stone Jamb fireplace with beamed walls
and ceiling. Double doors lead through to the snug/bar with
Versaille parquet flooring, attractive stone Jamb fireplace with
log burning stove, timbered walls, and a bay with French
doors leading out to the gardens. There is also a bar with
discreet Hetherington Newman cabinetry and two fridges.
The entrance hall leads to an inner hall with oak staircase to
the first floor and doors to the library, which has oak flooring
and built-in cabinetry. Double doors lead to the dining
room, again with oak flooring, built-in cabinetry and Jamb
fireplace, with de Gournay wallpaper. Also off the inner hall
are his and hers WCs with a cloakroom, and a lovely study
with garden views and built-in cabinetry.
The rear of the house is dominated by a large open-plan
space which incorporates the kitchen/breakfast room, living
room and orangery. This huge space has very high ceilings
and full height Crittall doors enjoying the garden views.
The kitchen is designed in country house style and has a
vast ceiling lantern with the Crittall doors beyond. Fitted by
Hetherington Newman, it includes a beautiful range of handpainted cabinetry including a large central island unit with
breakfast bar, free-standing style cupboards with a bench seat
and a glass-fronted three-quarter height dresser. The whole
space has underfloor heating, with beautiful stone-flagged
and reclaimed French oak parquet floor in the orangery.
There is also a two oven AGA with electric two oven
companion and a full complement of integral Gaggenau
appliances and Quooker tap. There is a wonderful bespoke
walk-in pantry and a large laundry room, all fitted by
Hetherington Newman. Crittall doors lead from the kitchen
to the gardens with two further sets of French doors from
the orangery. The orangery has oak flooring and a log burner
built into an impressive carved surround. The ground floor
is completed by a lovely gym with a door to the integral
triple garaging.
The bedrooms are laid out over two upper floors and
there are five full en suites, all with a common theme of
exceptional quality throughout, with bespoke cabinetry
and wonderful en suite bathrooms, several by Drummonds.
The stunning principal suite has an exceptional bedroom,
open to the eaves, with a large bespoke fitted dressing room/
relaxation area with glazed wall overlooking the gardens and
a large, beautifully appointed en suite bathroom with freestanding copper bath, separate over-sized shower and twin
sinks. Also on this floor are three further double bedrooms,
all of which are en suite, with lovely period features
including exposed timberwork and fitted furniture. The
second floor houses bedroom five and six, both rooms
being generously proportioned.
