TRUDY WU, M.D.
We're pleased to announce that Dr. Trudy Wu has joined UCLA Radiation Oncology as an
Assistant Professor with a focus on the treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies. She
earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Spanish with honors, from
The Ohio State University. She later graduated Magna Cum Laude, also receiving the
prestigious Landacre Research Honor from The Ohio State College of Medicine.
During her residency at UCLA, Dr. Wu made significant contributions to research
projects, which have been featured in numerous peer-reviewed journals. Notably, she
first authored over 15 publications, including manuscripts in esteemed journals like
JAMA Oncology and the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics.
Her clinical and research expertise is centered on the treatment of gastrointestinal
malignancies.
As an advocate for medical education and early-career development, Dr. Wu mentors
and educates through various platforms, including the “At The Beam” podcast, which
she created to improve oncology education among medical professionals. In 2024, she
was honored as the ARRO Resident Educator of the Year, recognizing her influence on
medical education nationwide. She is an active member of several professional societies,
including the American Radium Society, where she serves as Chair of the Radiation
Oncology Career Knowledge for Early Career Trainees (ROCKET) Task Force and is a
member of the Executive Committee.
Driven by a personal connection to cancer through her father’s diagnosis, Dr. Wu is
dedicated to enhancing outcomes for patients with cholangiocarcinoma and has been a
Research Advocate for The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation for over five years.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Wu is an accomplished marathon runner,
finishing 28th in her age group at the Los Angeles Marathon. She is also a former figure
skater and has passed both her senior free skate and moves in the field with the US
Figure Skating Association.
