Even the cold weather can’t stop the members enjoying a game
By Jo Mills from Hayling Island Bowls Club
WE are based at the Community Centre and
are lucky to have an all weather carpet so we
can play all year round.
We currently have a membership of 129 people
and at the AGM in November our two charities
for 2025 were chosen as Hampshire Air Ambulance Service and Age Concern in Webb Lane.
During 2024 we raised £1,000 for Hayling First
Responders and Dementia Friendly Hampshire,
a lot of this money was raised on our fun charity
day and the President’s Day and also from our
wrong bias fines during roll-ups throughout the
year!
In December the Men’s Triples Winter Floodlight League ended with the Milton Park team
winning and Hayling Island teams taking second
and third places.
Also, our ladies played several friendlies with
other local clubs under the floodlights.
February sees the start of a new Mixed Triples
Floodlight League and another Men’s Floodlight
League against other local clubs, plus several inhouse competitions.
They are all good practice for the main league
matches in the summer.
Hayling u3a members are welcome to play or
have an introduction to the game on Thursday
mornings (£4 green fees) and on our website you
can register an interest to Have a Go – new members are always welcome.
