JUST AN HOUR north of Atlanta, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, is Jasper, Georgia— nicknamed “the
First Mountain City.” Jasper and Pickens County began
with the marble industry. Marble from the area was used
to build the statue of Abraham Lincoln at the Lincoln Memorial. With the explosion of the Atlanta metro area and
the construction of Highway 515, the population of Jasper
has doubled since the year 2000— though still quite small
at only 4,000 people.
Amidst that growth is our youngest member to the list,
Pendley Creek Brewing Company, started in 2021. Owners
Daniel and Pam Briordy started the brewery from necessity— they wanted to provide the community with a new destination in the downtown area and find a home for Daniel’s
quickly growing home brewing hobby.
“While living in an apartment in Jasper, Daniel started home brewing. When we bought a
house, the basement quickly became filled
with various brewing equipment. It was
actually pretty overwhelming,” said Pam.
Daniel had already been working at
a commercial brewery so knew a bit of
the business side besides just the creation side. Boredom set in while brewing the same recipes all the time and
Daniel wanted to express the creative
side of brewing. With brews like “Porterpuff Girls” and “A Nightmare on Ale Street,”

the Briodys make it a fun atmosphere
with different beers on tap regularly.
Pam had originally studied to be an
art teacher but found art as a job to
take some of the joy out of it. She now
puts that creativity towards the décor
and fun menu board at Pendley Creek.
With trivia nights every Friday
night, hosting Pickens Historical Society
talks (the most recent by Atlanta news
legend John Pruitt), and hosting fundraisers
for local organizations like the Boys and Girls
Club, Pendley Creek is quickly becoming a Jasper institution. Customers appreciate the variety and quality of the
beverages available. “Daniel and Pam at Pendley Creek are
the best! Daniel brews the finest beers in the land!” said
one. And good beer names are not to be underestimated.
“Love the selection and owners at Pendley Creek. They
always have fun names for their brews and always have
something that I like,” said another customer.
“We knew Jasper could be a destination for people
given its location and beautiful mountain views. After
about a year of looking for a spot, our current building
popped up on Facebook marketplace. It was really a
dream location, and we couldn’t be happier in the heart
of downtown,” said Pam.
