about how dangerous it is. With the
cityhood movement politically dead
for now, and with violent crime easing
somewhat, Durrett and his board have
refocused on great things happening
as well as enhanced public safety. “It’s
wonderful to be able to work in Buckhead to make improvements here for
the entire community without having
to spend any energy fighting that dragon,” said Durrett.
The Wieuca Road at Phipps Boulevard roundabout in Buckhead
established area looking to take that
next step towards quality of life.

says numerous transportation and
infrastructure projects are ongoing,
including Lenox Road, Piedmont Road
and Peachtree Road. Nearly all of the
heart of north Atlanta has complete
street projects for pedestrians, bicycles
and improved automobile traffic. This
part of Atlanta’s business section was
for many years mostly an employment
center and home to the most valuable
shopping area in Georgia. It still has
that, but now it also has a few thousand new condos to go along with it.
Durrett also notes the decline
of the proposed Buckhead cityhood
conversation and the benefits of that
for the district. The major advocate
Sugarloaf CID
This Gwinnett County area has
been a big part of the metro Atlanta
explosion over the last 30 years and is
home to Sugarloaf CID. Sugarloaf CID
is made up of 115 commercial property
owners and home to the Gas South District (and Gas South Arena), Sugarloaf
Mills and with an economic impact of
nearly $16 billion on the state economy.

community and a vibrant regional arts
