Welcome to issue 46 of Conservation and Heritage Journal
In this issue we have a variety of articles highlighting the best projects that conservation and heritage artisans
have worked on. We are proud to feature Hare & Humphreys, who have evolved into one of Britain’s leading
specialists in the painting, gilding, conservation and decoration of historic and contemporary buildings.
We feature a wide range of projects including; The Evolution of Oxburgh's Gardens, a richly layered designed
landscape, enhancing the setting of the 15th-century Oxburgh Hall while holding valuable stories of
their own. The Purcell heritage consultancy team has in-house expertise oriented around historic designed
landscapes.
The renewal of 11 Belgrave Road completed by Eric Parry Architects on behalf of leading investor developer
Quadrum Global. Comprising just over 150,000 sq ft of Grade A workspace, the project sets a new standard
for high quality offices in Victoria, London. Also in the heart of the City of London, the Whittington Building
an exceptionally constrained and sensitive site, this provides high quality office and retail space, whilst
reinvigorating its surrounding streetscape.
Pricegore has revived and extended a Brutalist townhouse in the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea,
radically enhancing thermal performance and energy efficiency in what may prove to be a model for the
conservation and adaptation of modernist architecture.
Tom Flemons, Director of Cliveden Conservation and Bath Workshop Manager explains the work carried
out to the deteriorating Seafarers' Chapel floor, undertaken to improve its safety and enhance accessibility for
visitors and the Cathedral congregation.
Glass is featured with Peter Hazeldean, MD of heritage structural glass specialists Ion Glass Ltd explaining
why choosing frameless structural glass is often the best choice for conservation and heritage properties. Also
Associated Steel Window Services (ASWS) and Steel Window Fittings (SWF) brought their individual
expertise together while working on the County Hall project.
The Timeless Elegance and Practicality of Octagon Rooflights by The Rooflight Company. Few architectural
features offer the elegance and versatility of the octagonal rooflight. Found in both heritage and contemporary
buildings, octagonal and polysided rooflights enhance interior spaces with their striking geometry while also
providing practical benefits.
Paul Trace, Director of Stella Rooflight discusses why true conservation rooflights are more than just aesthetic.
Congratulations to Northcot Brick, celebrating a century of award-winning traditional brick-making. Northcot
is one of the country's last remaining independent brickworks, a hidden gem, which still produces traditional
bricks much sought after for their warm tones and distinctive character.
Pace interiors are proud to have worked on Chancery House, an architectural marvel redefining modern
workspaces with a clear-cut focus on well-being in all its forms.
Our next issue will be available in June.
