ART & CRAFT DESIGN (FINE ART)
A LEVEL
A broad-based course that allows learners to explore and create artwork in more than one area of Art & Design. Students spend time in year 12
exploring practical workshops across different art disciplines, before selecting and specialising in a chosen area of interest.

Critical and contextual studies
Art Cra and Design is taught through teacher and practitioner led practical
workshops, supported by theoretical and analytical lessons which dissect the
nature, and purpose of art. Over the course you will access our sixth form
studio space to produce a visual portfolio of coursework and outcomes,
based around a personal theme. The coursework element is led by you and
supported through projects in 1:1 critique with your teachers, making your
experience individualised. It is therefore crucial for success that you can work
independently and be self-motivated.
The nature of Art, Cra & Design opens the doors of any visual arts course
and therefore the Creative Industry, one of the largest contributors
annually to the UK economy and, one of the fastest growing UK industries.
Past students have progressed onto veterinary nursing, accounting, English,
computing, but also into creative pathways such as game design, film and
media studies, tattoo apprenticeship, fine art.

Course Specific Entry Requirements:
Due to the skill-based nature of the course it is a requirement that you have
achieved a grade 5 or above in GCSE Art, Photography or Textiles or any
equivalent visual arts-based course.
However, a varied portfolio of work with evidence of strong drawing skill would
be considered in the absence of an Art & Design GCSE or equivalent.

ART & DESIGN (PHOTOGRAPHY)
A LEVEL
Photography is a fast paced and exciting course which challenges students to explore the aesthetic, intellectual and technical aspects of
photography. In an ever-developing digital society it is a course which opens pathways into a multitude of digital industries including media,
film and visual arts and provides students with strong critical and analytical communication and independent project management skills
sought by many top employers.
Photography develops students’ creativity through a programme of study
spanning critical, practical, and theoretical skills. Students are encouraged
to investigate the different styles, genres and approaches to photography
including some chemical, digital and studio photography.
Students will be expected to plan, resource, and organise their own
photo shoots, therefore the ability to work independently is a key skill for
success on this course. Observing, refining, analysing, and taking
experimental risks are also key factors of the course.
