A LEVEL
Religious Studies A level allows you to apply a wide range of
concepts, better enabling you to interpret, contextualise and
analyse expressions of religions and world views.
This qualification broadens and expands the specialist
work-related focus of this science qualification, preparing
you for employment in your chosen vocational sector. It is
broadly equivalent to one GCE A level and is suitable for
you if you have already decided that you wish to enter a
particular area of scientific work.
It encourages you to develop an appreciation of religious
thought and its contribution to individuals, communities,
and societies.
Religions and beliefs to research and present well-informed and
reasonable arguments, which engage profoundly with moral,
religious and spiritual issues.
The course consists of the philosophy of religion, religion and ethics
and the study of religion which is Hinduism. This exciting course
looks at the arguments for the existence of God, challenges religious
belief including the problem of evil and suffering and religious belief
being a product of the mind.
There will also be a study of three ethical theories. In Hinduism you
will consider the practices which shape and express religious identity
and work of scholars.
Course-specific entry requirements
You will need a grade 6 in religious studies or a grade 6
in English.

SCIENCE (APPLIED)
The course consists of three mandatory units:

Principles and applications of science
Science investigation skills
Practical scientific procedures and techniques
A further nine optional units can be studied across each of the
science-based disciplines, including: the physiology of human body
systems; biochemistry and biochemical techniques; electrical circuits
and their applications.
You will be awarded a pass, merit, or distinction qualification grade
by the aggregation of points gained through the successful
achievement of individual units.
Course-specific entry requirements
No additional requirements to the main entry to
sixth form information.
