COMPUTER SCIENCE
A LEVEL
LEVEL 3 (DIPLOMA)
Computer science A level helps students understand the core
academic principles of computer science. Classroom learning
is transferred into creating real world situations, through the
creation of an independent programming project, designed
to develop the student’s technical understanding and their
ability to analyse and solve problems using computational
thinking.
Studying criminology will enable you to develop an
understanding of the different types of crime committed,
the influences on perceptions of crime and why some crimes
go unreported.
Computational thinking is a problem-solving process that
includes several skills, including, formulating problems in a
manner that enables us to use a computer and other tools to
help solve them, and logically organising and analysing data.
Computer science is an ideal qualification for anyone who is
hoping to undertake a career in IT or the computing industry,
the course is suitable for anyone who is interested in writing
computer code and creating their own soware and who wants
a fundamental understanding of the workings of a computer.
It will also appeal to confident mathematicians who can approach
problems logically.
Course Specific Entry Requirements:
You will need GCSE grade 6 in mathematics, you will also have
a passion and interest for all things tech.

CRIMINOLOGY
Exploring how media campaigns may affect society’s understanding
of crimes is key and you will have the opportunity to plan your own
‘campaign for change’. Learning about different theoretical
perspectives which try to explain why crime is committed in the
first place.
The journey from crime scene to courtroom, will enable you to
answer: What happens to a suspect once charged by the Police and
the Crown Prosecution Service? What safeguards are in place to
ensure a suspect has a fair trial? Exploring the way in which the court
system within the UK ensures suspects are processed fairly and the
way sentencing and punishment meets the aims of punishment,
such as retribution or rehabilitation.
A qualification in criminology will open doors into many job roles
within the criminal justice sector, social and probation work and
sociology and psychology.

You will need a grade 5 in English.
