INDUSTRIENS PENSIONSFORSIKRING A/S
2021
CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY REPORT
High returns on a responsible
foundation
Industriens Pension strives to reap value from
being an active and responsible investor.
Investments promote sustainability in the areas of
climate, the environment, labour rights and
human rights as stipulated in Article 8 of the EU
Disclosure Regulation. This is an integral part of
business, and Industriens Pension regularly
communicates about it to members, other
companies and the outside world.
Work is embedded in Industriens Pension’s policy
on responsible investment and active ownership,
which is based on various international standards
and principles, including the UN Guiding Principles
on Business and Human Rights and the UN Paris
Agreement on reducing climate change.
Climate and environmental aspects
integrated across the portfolio
Industriens Pension has substantial investments in
renewable energy technologies, such as wind, solar
and biogas solutions. These investments help to
promote the green transition and other climate
aspects.
HIGH RETURNS ON A RESPONSIBLE FOUNDATION
Slurry releases large quantities of methane, which
is around 25 times more harmful to the
environment than CO2. However, in biogas
production, methane is captured in the biogas
plant and sent into the gas grid or converted to
electricity. According to the government's climate
action plan, biogas will play an important role in
Denmark’s target to reduce carbon emissions by
70% in 2030.
In 2020, Industriens Pension invested in Better
Energy, a Danish solar energy company, and a
portfolio of 16 solar farms in Denmark and Poland.
Last year, this investment collaboration was
extended by another six Danish solar farms and
one Polish farm.
When fully operational, these 23 solar farms will
have a total capacity of more than 1 GW and be able
to supply green electricity to cover the consumption
of around 880,000 Danes.
Sustainable buildings
Industriens Pension aims to be an active player in
developments towards a more sustainable
construction sector by ensuring that real-estate
investments focus on social, financial and
environmental sustainability.
Major investments in Danish biogas and solar
energy
In 2021, Industriens Pension made a large
investment in Bigadan, one of Denmark’s leading
biogas companies. The green transition is an
integral part of Bigadan’s business model. 100% of
the biomass used to produce biogas and electricity
comes from waste products, and around 60% of
these products are slurry from Danish agriculture.
"We continue to have strong focus on good investments in wind power and solar energy in
Scandinavia, the rest of Europe and a large number of emerging markets."
Jan Østergaard, Deputy Director and Head of Private Investments
