Leukemia/Lymphoma
Antibodies
Leukaemias and lymphomas are cancers arising from cells of the immune
system. Whilst leukaemias are characterised by the presence of malignant
cells in the blood and bone marrow, lymphomas tend to be solid tumours,
often arising in lymph nodes. The diagnosis of leukaemia is usually undertaken
using a process known as immunophenotyping, where analysis of the cell
surface proteins expressed by the tumour cells can be used to identify the
original lineage of the cells. As an example, acute leukaemias may be of the
lymphoid or myeloid lineage, the identification of which with markers such
as CD10 or CD33 guide treatment choices and indeed provide an indication of
long-term prognosis. Flow cytometry is the critical application for Immuquest
antibodies for leukaemia and lymphoma diagnosis, whilst applications such
as immunofluorescence and immunohistology staining are also commonly
used.
