N
ot so long ago women
sported lush bush
covering the Mons
pubis, also referred
to as the Mound
of Venus, the fatty
tissue covering the
pubic bone. During
my Hippie era in the
709s, I was the proud
bearer of a vigorously growing bush
that often peeked out over the top of
my low slung, bell bottom dungarees.
It was perfectly normal in those days;
and sometimes we even carved it into a
heart shape.
Today, thong wearing fashionistas
seek out Brazilian waxing wizards to
be neatly shorn in a clean sweep of
the genital area from the top of the
pubic mound to the buttocks and inner
thighs. If performed improperly this
service elicits painful eruptions and

even bleeding, forcing the recipient
to abandon everyday activities like
walking, not to mention sex, until
healed. I9ll take a razor please!
Vogue declared bush was back in
2018 and we9ve been wondering what9s
down there ever since. The recent
appearance of the Merkin on the
Parisian runway of Maison Margiela9s,
Artisanal Haute Couture Cabaret,
fueled viral commentary on the subject
after models wearing lace tulle gowns
sashayed seductively to the crowd
revealing hand sown, silk Merkins.
For the uninitiated, Merkins are pubic
hair wigs once worn by sex workers in
the 14th and 15th centuries to conceal
evidence of diseases like syphilis, or
after shaving to rid one9s person of
pubic hair lice. I can9t imagine Target
carrying them.
While seeking answers to questions
about her business model and the latest
hair removal trends, we contacted
