Dewpoint Meters, Hygrometers &
Moisture Analysers
LNG & LPG carriers require very dry inert gas for several reasons, including preventing a fire,
preventing a chemical reaction, or maintaining cargo quality. IM&M can supply new, refurbished &
service.
Typical applications for LNG and LPG carriers include:
• Cold Testing - Prior to any cold testing taking place the dewpoint in a cargo piping system, cargo
tanks and insulation spaces should be reduced to a level below that at which condensation is likely
to occur.
• Purging - A N² purge of cargo tank insulation spaces is carried out to reduce both the O² content
and dewpoint in those spaces. The duration and details of this operation are dependent on the type
of cargo containment system but typically the O² content in the N² purged spaces will be reduced to
3% by volume and the dewpoint will be reduced to at least -40°C dewpoint.
• Dry air, produced by the inert gas plant, is used to blow through the cargo piping system and to
purge the cargo tanks of humid air, reducing the dew point to -20°C dewpoint or below.
