A fire is reported every 3 1/2 hours in Texas as a
result of children playing with fire, matches or
other fire starter tools. Annually these fires set by
children result in:
142 injures
9 deaths
$8.65 million in property loss
YOUTH AND THE LAW
Juveniles from 10-16 years of age can be
charged with the crime of arson, a felony.
According to FBI, two out of five people arrested
for arson are under 18.
Parents of children 0-18 years of age can be
forced to pay restitution or civil penalties.
Setting off a false fire alarm is against the law.
