Surrendering to the higher self is like hanging off
the edge of a cliff, holding on with all our might
to a single branch, whilst the voice of the ego
yells ‘hold on’ ’do something’ drowning out the
soul voice which invites us to;
‘Let go and be carried’
For the warrior in the masculine, this can be
counterintuitive, as we have we have a tendency
to want to battle, overcome and dominate our
life and our problems. But there is a saying I
came across in India, one that continues to
alchemises in my life, one that is becoming a
powerful tool in my journey.
which isn’t born of this world, a higher self, a
souls self, a place where the body can feel the
divine, where the wave can sense the ocean.
I see this time and time again in my life, that
there is a loving and guiding force in this
universe. It is omnipresent, omnipotent and
omniscient. It’s available to everyone, it is deeply
loving and we just need to understand how to
listen to it.
The guidance system of the highest self appears
in ancient Sanskrit prayers, such as; from untruth
take me to truth, from darkness take me to the
light (Asato Ma Sad-gamaya, tamasoma Jyoti
gamaya)
The saying is
‘Let God fight your battles for you.’
This means there is a false darkness and a true
divine darkness .. a peaceful dark emptiness of
being, the still womb of creation, and darkness
filled with hatred and devoid of meaning.
Having had depression in my past, and helping
support men through depression and anxiety, I
found that one of the most powerful tools apart
from self-compassion. Was the ability to stop
fighting and surrender into the flow of the
experience.
Our mind with its unconscious pre-programmed
emotional and psychological reactivity, Is on a
journey of its own de-motion, from master of the
ego to servant of the soul.
Spiritual surrender isn’t ‘do nothing’ but instead
as Lao Tzu says.
The true dark night of the soul is where this starts
to become apparent.
“Can you be still, resting in the Tao and allow the
right decision or action to rise naturally, by
itself?”
I stopped chanting prayers of enlightenment for
a while as I found them childish.
Perhaps this is the parable of the staff of Moses,
perhaps this is the parable of Christs last words
on the cross. I have an emotionally reactive body
and an ADD mind which sometimes can get
intense in its own anxiety.
I felt that the idea of future enlightenment, a
destination which wasn’t here and now, caused
unnecessary stress and a lack of ‘being’ in the
fullness of ourselves and life in each moment.
But I think that I now understand what these
prayers of enlightenment are pointing to.
I wake up each morning and I’m invited into the
joy of starting again, releasing me insecurities,
fears, musts and must nots! I sit silently, I empty
my mind and calm my nervous system, until that
still small voice can be heard again.
It’s referring to Darkness as our unconscious
conditioned human mind, and the light as our
super-conscious mind, the awaking to our own
higher self or divine mind.
This still small voice is my higher self, which
constantly says.. ‘give this to me I can look after
it all’ I believe we all have a guidance system
Stillness is one of the most powerful tools for
awakening this type of perception. Because
stillness at first allows us to see the insanity of
