BY MARION BRIGANTIA
BRIGID, GREAT CELTIC GODDESS
I am She,
who is the natural mother of all things.
Mistress and Governess
of all the elements
The initial progeny of worlds
Chief of the powers divine
Queen of all that is in the Otherworld
The principal of them that dwell above
Manifested alone and under one form
of all the Gods and Goddesses

Goddess of Brigit’s Isles,
where She is Bridey, Bride,
Brid, Brighde, Bree, Breed,
Brigit, Brigantia, Brighid and
Bridget, Lady of Fire, of the
Sun and Moon, of the
Springs and Wells, of the
Four Directions, the Divine
Midwife of the Soul, Bride of
the Fair Palms, Mary of the
Gael, Bride of the Isles. She
is also Saint Brighid, a 5th
century Irish Celtic
Christian saint whose life
shows many similarities
with the Goddess Brigid.
During my Priestess training I
first came across Her as the
Maiden Goddess Bridie or
Brigid(a) as we called Her in
The Netherlands. I cannot
exactly remember why She
spoke to me immediately,
but She did. It might have
been because I myself have
a good connection with my
inner maiden or because She
was symbolic for the new
Spring after the darkness of
winter or that She is stands
for all the beauty that comes
with inspired art or that She
manifested into a human
form. There is no way to tell;
She however speaks and
calls to a lot of people in
ways that are inexplicable,
but definitely very heartfelt.
If this is the first time you
read about Brigid you might
be intrigued who this
Goddess is, but also if you
know about Her already, you
might still be intrigued by
how She presents Herself
more and more. I certainly
was.
So, who is She who called me
and with me so many
others? In my experience
Brigid has many levels of
existence, many ways how
you can experience Her and
work with Her, which scales

from being pure energy to
being human.
Thinking in a metaphysical
way it is generally accepted
that all is energy.
Contemplating
further along those lines it is
my belief that before She
was called Brigid, She was
and is energy. She therefore
is creation as all is made up
from energy and from
energy comes
manifestation. Which made
me realise that it was only
when She was named ‘Brigid’
– that Her name was spoken
out loud for the first time that She shaped into Her
first form, that of Goddess.
With Goddess I mean that
Brigid was another word for
Goddess, so not a
(particular) Goddess, but
the Great Goddess. Her
name translated as much as
