3.4 APPOINTING THE TEMPORARY WORKS TEAM3.4.1For the safe management of construction activities regulation 4, 5 and 8 of Construction(Design and Management) Regulations require competent people to be appointedwith clear responsibilities and lines of communication.3.4.2ALL those involved with managing temporary works should be able to demonstrate aminimum understanding in the following aspects. Note this includes the designatedindividual.3.4.3BS 5975 requires specific roles to be ‘appointed’ and whilst the roles are different, theprincipals for appointing the PC’s TWC, a TWC (other than the PC’s TWC) and a TWSare common as follows:3.4.4They can be nominated by another member of the project team;They should be appointed by the designated individual of the company thatemploys them;They should be appointed formally in writing, should be aware of theirresponsibilities and accept the appointment;They should have relevant up-to-date training and the necessary skills, knowledgeand experience appropriate to the complexity of the project.The appointment of the PC’s TWC is summarised as:Version 2 © mytemporaryworks 2023 | The control of temporary works – procedural guide44
