3.1 TEMPORARY WORKS ROLES IN THE CONSTRUCTION TEAM3.1.9In 2008, when BS5975 was updated, the role of ‘Falsework Coordinator’ wassuperseded by the TWC. The role relates to other TWC’s other than the PC’s TWC, i.e.,the sub-contractors TWC. The training and management responsibility is the sameas the PC’s TWC however they are only responsible for the works that they arespecialist. They are therefore likely to be classified as a design and build subcontractor in relation to temporary works. They may also be responsible for the designand build of the permanent works.3.1.10 The TWS is a specific role given to the specialist design and build sub-contractor inrelation to temporary works. The role could also apply to a labourer only subcontractor whereby the temporary works design has been undertaken and thematerials or equipment has been provided by others. The labourer only subcontractor is therefore only responsible for building the temporary works.3.1.11 The following organograms (figure 1 and 2) show how the appointments describedabove interface with each other. This is for illustration purposes only showing only asmall proportion of specialist sub-contractors. Note that this does not include otherswho can influence decisions relating to planning, design and implementation oftemporary works.Version 2 © mytemporaryworks 2023 | The control of temporary works – procedural guide33
